Let me start off and say I hate G4 and I really cannot stand Adam
Sessler. However, one of my listeners directed me to his recent video
blog entry:

So, basically everyone who cries about bc is just part of the "loud
minority?" How about the bc people aren't into getting screwed out of
playing old classics in favor of playing new gen games. Sure, we can
all do what Sessler suggests and repurchase these old games via
downloadable content, but why should I pay for a game I already bought
when it first came out? Sessler also points to Xbox 360's new games on
demand service as an option. Yeah, okay, I'm gonna spend $29.99 on
Ghost Recon when I can walk into a used game shop and get it for $14.99
or less. Great suggestion Adam. Again, this is the same person who will
rip a game to shreds on X-Play and still give said game a 3 out of 5.
One might say the solution is to hold onto your old consoles (which I
have since my first NES) if you think you might want to go back and
play your old favorites. What people fail to understand is that for
many people the only way they can afford a PS3 is to trade in their PS2
for credit towards a PS3. Without bc, these people get screwed out of
playing their old games that they may want to revisit some day. I don't
know about you, but my collection of PS1 and PS2 games is quite
extensive. Thankfully, I have a PS3 that is bc, unlike the new lower
priced slim models. I also still have my PS2 because when the PS3
launch I was working in a corporate job, making great money. Since
then, I was laid off (thanks crappy enconomy) and am working part time
in a retail store. Guess what, I could never afford a new PS3 now,
unless I traded stuff towards the price. What would be on top the list,
my PS2. Also on that trade list would have to be all my PS2 games since
the new PS3 units don't offer bc.
Truely though, I can't get too upset by these comments because of one
thing Sessler mention, the cost of making consoles bc. I suppose their
could be a point to that, but we won't know until the next generation
of consoles hit the market. I think a great way to see if bc fans are
in fact the "loud minority" would be to offer console A with bc for a
price, then console B without bc for a cheaper price and see who
outsells who.
In the meantime, myself, along with the other bc "loud minority" will
have to make our choices with the future in mind that we may not be
able to play our PS3 or 360 games in the next incarnations from Sony
and Microsoft. I guess I should start saving today for holiday season
2012 for a PS4 since I'll most likely have to keep my PS3 in case I
want to go back and play Batman Arkham Asylum some time in the next
decade.
