Capcom and Nintendo just released their 2008 Q1 profit results, and both powerhouses have reason to celebrate success due to impressive numbers.

Capcom announced today that their first quarter financial results saw profits rise by 60.1 percent – totaling over 37 million dollars in profits. Much credit is given to the Japanese-exclusive title Monster Hunter Freedom 2G for the PSP, which sold 2.4 million units during the period. Capcom’s console and handheld titles also encouraged growth, increasing by over 31 percent from last quarter.

Nintendo is also raking in the dough, as their net profit rose by 33 percent – totaling $992 million dollars. Even with this success, Nintendo chose not to adjust their total year predictions, as the PSP still seems to be outselling the Nintendo DS in Japan.

According to the Associated Press, most of Nintendo’s success is due to the increasing sale of Wii consoles, and the systems mass appeal to casual gamers. They also credit the release of Wii Fit to the increase in sales, arguing that it helps to draw health-conscious consumers to the entertainment medium. Nintendo sold over five million Wii systems worldwide this quarter – more than double what was sold the previous year. We also learned that 3.42 million Wii Fit packages were purchased, and 6.42 million Mario Kart titles where sold – adding to Nintendo’s profits.

With encouragement from their numbers, Nintendo estimated that they will sell 25 million Wii entertainment systems and 28 million Nintendo DS pieces by the end of the March 2009 fiscal year. They explained that this would be possible with a new aggressive marketing strategy, making their products a must-have item for every individual, not just every home.
