from 1up.com:

With Little Big Planet, SingStar, and Buzz all having been successfully released on PlayStation 3 -- and with PlayStation Home set to launch tomorrow -- Sony's senior VP of Worldwide Studio Europe, Michael Denny, is claiming that Sony is at the forefront of user-generated content on consoles. Considering Microsoft and Nintendo's positions on letting gamers create and share content, it's hard to argue that he's wrong.

"Although we've had the success in the social genre we want to move that on as well, like finding new experiences with Little Big Planet and user-generated content," Denny told GamesIndustry.biz. "In the console field that's an area we can rightly claim leadership to now. We want to look at more areas of that."

Denny backed up his claims with some numbers: More than 180,000 levels have been created in Little Big Planet and they've been played over 22.4 million times online. Buzz has seen 100,000 quizzes made by gamers, which have been played in excess of seven million times.

And while neither Buzz nor Little Big Planet is really your run-of-the-mill game, Sony is doings its best to do innovate in other genres, too.

"In some of the more established genres, like shooters with Killzone 2 -- we've had some great results in the beta trial, certainly in the online space. I don't think people have really seen enough of Killzone 2 -- the [customization], the clan support, the tournament support. We're really excited where that can go," he added.

Nintendo's priority on keeping gamers safe and far away from any potential creeps you might run into online really prevents them from having a legitimate shot at the throne Sony has claimed. And Microsoft's insistence on keeping Xbox Live a secure, closed service (thereby preventing Unreal Tournament 3 from supporting the series' trademark user-generated content) takes them down at least a peg from where Sony is currently sitting. Hopefully the positive reaction to Sony's attempts to push user-generated content will help convince Microsoft and Nintendo that this is something gamers want rather than garner a seemingly childish "we don't want to do what they're doing" type of response.

sure, go ahead and brag sony, as you FIRE 8000 PEOPLE! brag all you want. can anyone else understand why i hate sony?? sadly, they're kindof like herpies...they keep coming back.
