Turbine Entertainment Lays Off Unknown Number of People
GamesIndustry.biz reports that Turbine Entertainment, makers of Lord of the Rings Online, have laid off several employees. However, according to a spokesman for the company:
"We are a privately-held company and will not discuss the details regarding the number of our team that were affected. These changes were made across the entire organisation in both our MA and CA offices"
So there is no way of knowing how many staffers were let go. However, the California office affected by the layoffs was established a mere two months ago, so layoffs impacting this particular office come incredibly early in the branch's history.
Still, Turbine indicates that they're still hiring, and will continue to grow into 2009 - this seemingly contradictory statement is made somewhat clear by their statement that the roles laid off were "redundancies."
