It appears that both Warner Bros and Square Enix, known for its Final Fantasy publishing, are in a battle to become the owner of Eidos, the publisher for all the previous Hitman games. Things become even more interesting when one knows that Eidos currently owns IOI, the Danish company that produces the game. Eidos has had a very rough year, with no major successes, except maybe for Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Underworld, and with its share price dropping over 90 % of its value. Thus, it is no real surprise that others have shown to be interested in taking over its publishing activities.

Warner Bros, a company that already owns a 20% share in Eidos, launched its bid to take over the British firm about a week ago. But they are not the only one hunting for Eidos' ownership: it seems that Square Enix appears to be interested, too.
Many observers have noted that Warner is in pole position for the race because of their present share in Eidos. However, another article states that "Square boss Yoichi Wada has already popped in for tea and biscuits at Eidos-owned IO Interactive (Hitman, Kane & Lynch), and will be flying back to the UK soon to "move the deal forward".

It is as of yet not known what Eidos' status is at the moment.
